SCHOOL OF HUMANITIES

Director's Message

Director's Message

In June 2025, the School of Humanities at Netaji Subhas Open University completes a decade of its existence. At the outset, I congratulate all my colleagues who have been a part of this academic journey of a fledgling entity that has now spread deep roots in the Open education scenario of West Bengal, and of India at large.

Comprising of the Departments of Bengali and English, and of disciplines like English Language Teaching (ELT) and Journalism and Mass Communication (JMC), the School of Humanities registers one of the largest learner enrolments in Netaji Subhas Open University both at UG and PG levels. While this is testimony to the demand for our courses in terms of graduate employability; it also speaks for our constant endeavours at conducting teaching-learning in the Humanities through the Open and Distance Learning mode. After the resumption of the Ph.D. programme at NSOU in the regular mode following UGC regulations, we have commenced registration of research scholars in Bengali, English, and ELT. Through rigorous engagements between scholars and supervisors, our research programmes delve into the manifold nuances of Indian literatures, languages, and cultures.

As a faculty, we are aware of the ever-emerging horizons of Humanities studies in the present day globalised knowledge society. Our cumulative efforts are oriented towards holistically inculcating the best practices in the field while we ensure the upholding of ethical perspectives.
